It's been a good few days, despite me still not having made a start on the Christmas shopping ... need to get some cards in the post at least.
Anyway, what I did do was take part in some carol singing. I warble and hit wrong notes with the South Bristol Wellbeing Choir, and we sang several carols in Bedminster on Friday evening. It was freezing, but lots of people had turned out, and I think it was the first lighting of the Bemmy Christmas tree. It was fun, it was freezing and we had to compete against the rumble of a noisy generator, but I think a good time was had by all.
On Saturday I watched a lantern parade through the Southville / Bedminster area. There were drummers and samba dances, plus loads of children carrying homemade lanterns. It was noisy and good humoured, slightly anarchic and totally Bristol. The tiger was my fave lantern, and more pictures can be seen at

Today was church and a bit of kipping on the sofa this afternoon (isn't that what Sunday afternoons are made for?) then I got around to reading my emails. A lovely surprise - I've won a writing competition and a hefty £250 cheque is soon to be winging its way through the Christmas post. Yay! Maybe there's a future in this writing lark after all. Hope your run-up to Christmas is going well too. Any nice surprises come your way lately?
