This crumpled pile of vintage tray cloths, napkins and table cloths are waiting for the iron to make a rare appearance. Once they're starched and pressed I'll try to take some decent photos and list them on Etsy.
I still sometimes find hand embroidered table or tray cloths in charity shops, and love those carefully stitched daisies and daffs. Even the ones that're rather clumsily stitched have a charm. Often you can tell why someone's donated them. There's a ciggie burn or moth holes, maybe a faded stain that just won't come out.
At first I was reluctant to cut those fabrics up, but now I merrily chop away, upcycling them into something useful and pretty. That way, the fabric gets a new lease of life, and the anonymous stitcher's creativity lasts that bit longer.
On other news, any one else really looking forward to the new, souped up version of Poldark about to come our way? Talk about smouldering ...
